March 29 Food distribution in Oshika-town

Mr. Yoshihiko Akimoto, the president of Pan Akimoto Co., Ltd and JIFH volunteers distributed canned soft bread in a town in Oshika peninsula, where supply shortage is serious.

At the harbor, a hovercraft was carrying many people to and from a marine vessel of Self-Defense-Force, which was made available to the disaster-victims for taking a bath. The canned soft bread was handed to those who came back after a bath or waiting for their turn at the harbor. Receiving bread, smile spread across children's faces, and it brought joy to the volunteers.

While delivering bread to the affected people in the town, volunteers encountered a woman who stood rooted in front of her house. Upon hearing her story, all of the volunteers started searching for photos of her daughter. While the entire first floor of the house had been destroyed by the tsunami waves, miraculously, a photo album of her daughter's wedding was found. Seeing her weep with the fond memories of her daughter held tightly in her arms, volunteers also shed tears.
